[IronMan]: I've got ProjectForum running on a W2K box but would like to move it to another Windows PC. Is there anything I should keep in mind or can I just shutdown the forum, install ProjectForum on the second box, copy the files across and start ProjectForum on the second box? Will there be any problems using my key on the second PC?
[Mark]: that will work just fine.
[IronMan]: Great, thx - appreciate the fast response

WimV: I want to
- run ProjectForum as a service under Win2k -- see http://www.courseforum.com/howto_service.html for info
- run it from IIS via port 80. May a virtual directory? -- you'll need to setit up via proxying, for example using Microsoft's ISA server

adg gggg
I've been really enjoying using ProjectForum to organize some documentation. I think I might have found a bug though. I read the user's guide and the faq but I don't see any info on it. The issue is that I've removed a link but it is still showing up under references. When I click on the reference the link is clearly not there. Is that normal?
Could not reproduce this... can you email support@courseforum.com about this please?

[IronMan]: Using ProjectForum 2.5 on Win2K, 896MB memory over LAN (100MB Ethernet) I'm getting a 2 *minute* delay to save edits on a page with about 30 pages worth of data (no files/pics, only text). Is this normal? I noticed that ProjectForum appears as "Not responding" in task manager during the operation, but it completes after 120-150 seconds and the program is then set as "Running" again.
If it helps you test this, the data is just under 80kB when saved as plain text with Notepad.
[IronMan]: I've attached the data here (zipped as data.zip). The problem occurs when pasting it as text into ProjectForum.
We've confirmed this and identified the problem... fix will be in the next release. Thanks very much for the report - Mark

[IronMan]: Thanks for the support :-) Simple question: I'm posting a coding guideline which follows the format
command bracket
parameter endbracket and this is interpreted as a link by ProjectForum. Using = = = doesn't stop this. Any suggestions?
For coding like this, use = = = = = = (six rather than three) to delimit the sections - Mark

[Selim]: Hello, I've a similar problem as Steel's (posted Sep 15/2003). I cannot output square brackets (they're interpreted as links). I tried enclosing things between = = = = = = (six ='s) but didn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

[Eilif]: Hi, I have a problem, while using html to center align text. I will attach an image to show what I mean. The problem seems to be that due to the toolbox there will be two reference points for alignment.

[Izmet]: I'm using test trial 3.0, how do I modify the main screen, specifically the text 'Groups,Each group gets its own separate Forum to work on its projects.'?
Tnx, I really like the software btw.
[Mark]: The top title and blurb on the right are modifiable via the site admin screen, though the messages you mention on the left side aren't currently modifiable.
[Izmet]: Eek!

[Roy Terry]: Is is possible and practical to embed Project Forum pages inside a larger website? How, in essence, would it need to be done?
I am currently using Net Objects Fursion 7 to generate my sites.
The easiest is to just hang an entire ProjectForum forum off a subdirectory, rather than trying to embed individual pages. Another easy approach is to use frames so that your main site will include PF inside a frame - Mark

[Rick Heil]: I've just started setting up a forum and have some questions.
1) When will the new release be updated to the hosted site?
It's already running the latest.
2) How do we get RSS to work (clicking it does nothing).
You need to provide the URL of the RSS page to a separate news aggregator application.
3) How do you do backups, and can this be automated and auto-posted to a link on the site?
See [link].. there's a link to download backups via the group admin page
4) When setting the Group Admin setting users who edit files need to supply a login/pw it isn't working (it asks for a password but none has been asked for or set).
You also need to setup accounts, or a shared password
Suggestion - In future updates can you add a mechnism to create nested bulleted and enumerated lists. I've seen other wikis' do this, generally with repeating char's (e.g. #, ##, ###, etc.).
We're considering adding this in the future, yes.

[Bob Peterson]: Is there a way, today, to include HTML formatting in a page? For example, this would enable us to insert tables and nested lists.
Yes, this is an option that the forum's administrator can set on a per-forum basis.

Javier : Is possible in Spanish ?
Not at present, though this is something we're investigating adding...

[pauls]: I'd like to be able to date entries quickly as well as the posts, like (~~~) in wikipedia gives me my username and date on the entry. I know it can be done using posts, but that's not always the most intuitive way to do it.

[Mark]: sounds like a reasonable suggestion... I'll add it to the list for a future version. Thanks!

[IronMan]: It would be very useful to have a way of deleting multiple pages in a single operation, using either a tick-box type setup in administration or by having a "delete all empty pages" option.
Posted at Oct 19/2003 05:19 AM:
[Steve Hryncewicz]: I would like a print icon in the sidebar. I think it would make it easier for long pages, not to have to scroll down to the end of the page in order to format the page without the sidebar. Also I sometimes access my school site with my wireless PDA and would like to be able to lose the sidebar easily.
[Red]: I'll add that it would be nice to have the
edit button appear after every horizontal rule...
or have a special horizontal rule that includes an edit link on the right-hand side. I've seen this done. Perhaps a "-----e" or something like that.

Zoldac: It would be nice if we could link to files on our network with links like
file://johns-machine/pictures/image.jpg
Thanks!
Note that this is available starting in version 3.1. - Mark
[Red] Actually, what I want to do is similar, but to put it in brackets to it appears as a [link] without having to do an aref HTML style....like this: [
file:C//etc/etc]

[Steve Hryncewicz]: 1. It would be nice to be able to set an expiry date on a page, especially a page of announcements, for example.
2. It would also be helpful to be able to sort columns in the User Activity Summary page in the Forum Options page, so to see which pages are very active and which are not.

[Chris Jefferies]:
I'd love to be able to create links to URLs where I provide the text to be displayed as the link. Markup something like [
http://myurl.com/ my link text] should do the trick (similar to Wikipedia). It would display 'my link text' on the page and connect to myurl.com.
This would be really neat! Anyone else have thoughts on this?
[Red] YES!! Please. I've seen some wikis handle an ref with a pipe...like [Linkname | ActualLinkPage] or [Linkname | http://www.linkpage...] and this is also nice. The pipe character is easier to type and read than all the "<>" html stuff.
Posted at Dec 11/2003 12:38 PM:
[David Burkholder]: I second that motion Chris and combine it with the one by Zoldac above i.e that we can use files with spaces in folder names and file names
[Red]: Third. Filenames with spaces seem to kill the "file" link.

[C]: I would like to be able to search for documents like all documents that are pdf's. No results are shown when entered pdf in the find area. I have to enter either that tag [file or I need to enter the number of the file 1557 that is associated with the name of the file. So if finding a type of media is hard then what about a cross reference output of # versus filename (text, jpg, gif, pdf etc)? ''Good suggestion - Mark''

[C]: I would like to see the list of pages in a group, but, not from the Group Admin page. I want to keep the Group Admin page as administered by a single individual but wish the group members to have access permissions to enter the forum. So how does one see this list of pages in the forum from other that the Group Admin Page?
The list of all pages, while linked to from the Group Admin page, does not require admin permission to view, so others can view this page if you provide a link to it in the forum
