You'll notice that most pages in this support forum are locked, and require a password of "lock" to be entered, to either post comments or edit pages.

This is due to the unfortunate reality of spam in today's internet. Automated spam robots search out sites such as blogs and wikis that allow users to add material to them, and post hundreds of comments, usually links to a website whose Google ranking they are trying to promote. Once a spam robot finds a page, they will continuously post to it.

This is a problem on any "open" site, which allows anyone to enter and add material (a closed support forum would not be terribly useful!), and hence the password needed to post or edit. Most users of ProjectForum of course do not run open sites, but instead restrict the site through various password and firewall mechanisms to users of their own organization or other group.
